25 December 2012

In February 2010 I booked the train up to Penrith for a weekend, only to break the bicycle I'd planned to take on the day before departure.

So I quickly changed plans and took the bus down to wintry Keswick, where the boat bus company fought to break the ice.

And walked up up past Ashness Bridge and over Walla Cragg in the blizzard, through the fresh snow around the stones at Castlerigg...

...and up over Latrigg as the clouds cleared for late afternoon sun on the snow-dusted moors and fells.

Then got the morning double decker bus down to Ambleside, and walked, as best as one can, along the shores of the less frozen Lake Windermere, where the Langdale Pikes rose across the water.

And into town for the train home.

The red squirrel was a lucky catch in the woods below Ashness Bridge.
